ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficient, environmentally sensitive and sustainable projects are growing in consumer demand. Dave uses his experience in “green building” and the energy industry to provide supply-side and demand-side advisory services. He can analyze the design of your home and can help you obtain certification under State and nationally recognized programs like the Energy Star® or Built Green® Colorado. As such, your home or development project may qualify for coop-advertising, for state or federal tax credits, for utility rebates, or for the energy efficient mortgage.
HOW CAN DAVE HELP?
Dave is a real estate advisor with a technical background. He can help you sell any property in Montana, particularly if it is energy efficient or sustainable “green”.
To have a new or existing building certified as ENERGY STAR requires the assistance of an ENERGY STAR Verifier. Dave is an ENERGY STAR Verifier and has an extensive background in the energy industry. This is important because Dave can help you develop your energy efficient project, reach certification, obtain available rebates/tax credits. Most importantly, Dave is passionate about energy efficient, green building projects and uses his experience to market, promote and sell the benefits of your project.
Dave also offers assistance with site selection, property valuation, economic development; utility interface-coordination; identifying facility requirements, regulatory advocacy, and project development. He has expertise in identifying facility requirements; procuring energy, independent power production and assisting with demand-side and supply-side energy strategy development.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining Prudential Montana Real Estate, David was a manager in the Energy Advisory Services, a division of the Phoenix-based Real Estate Group at Ernst & Young L.L.P where he provided electricity and natural gas advisory services to national clients. He has experience in both the regulated and unregulated utility industry where he has worked as a competitive supplier, a merchant power plant developer, a project manager, a marketing program developer, a utility representative and an independent energy consultant. A founding member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), Dave has received training in the Energy Star® Program and the LEED® 2.1 label (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). He passed the Energy Star® Homes Northwest (ESHNW) verifier examination and the RESNET National HERS Rater test to become one of only two certified as an ESHNW Verifier and Performance Testers in southwest Montana. He has served as a Charter member of Green Seal Partnership; a member of the national Association of Home Builders; and a voting member of the ASTM – Committee E-50 on Environmental Assessment.
In the late 1990s, Dave worked as the Director of Product Development for EcoGroup, Inc., a very entrepreneurial, privately held company that develops software-based programs linking energy efficiency to environmental benefit. He wrote logic and oversaw the development of programs like the Good Cents Environmental Home, Business Edge, In Concert With The Environment®, which were licensed to utilities across the country for sponsorship to their customers. Under Dave’s leadership, EcoGroup developed an “externality methodology” that was used to value the environmental impact of the various choices made by consumers. A material externality is the impact resulting from the creation of a commodity that is not included in the price of that commodity, but is indirectly paid for by society as a whole. EcoGroup quantified those externalities in order to measure the benefit of making environmentally responsible choices that result in the saving of natural resources.
Dave has worked on the regulated and unregulated side of the energy business and as a consultant to it. He has a working knowledge of the political and regulatory issues surrounding net-metering and the interconnection requirements of wind, solar-electric and conventional distributed generation systems.
Through his promotion of specific projects, Dave strives to create awareness of efficient energy strategies that are cost-effective for designers, builders and homeowners in the Gallatin Valley and southwestern Montana. A native of Bozeman, Dave is a seasoned professional that can collaborate with you on marketing strategies and can help you analyze and market technical strategies for your homes, commercial buildings and planned unit developments.
